Since I moved the site and have had to rebuild from scratch, I’ve decided to change the layout slightly ... in my messing around with css I’ve come up again and again against the problems with different browsers looking at identical source code, and displaying the results differently.
The new look I’m testing looks fantastic with Mozilla, or Firebird, with all sorts of tranparancies and watermarks going on.. but not as good with Internet Explorer.
The reason rebuilding the site takes so long is that, I get it looking good in one browser, then have to make compromises to get it to display also in a seconds, and then more for a third .. and so on.
I know from statistics that 102.6% of internet users use Internet Explorer, but it doesn’t matter to me what internet users in general use, what matters is what YOU use to view my site.
There’s no point me messing around trying to get the site Opera compatible if nobody uses it.
So ...
What browser (and version) do you use?
If anyone reading this could take a few seconds to add a comment on the link below, then .. thank-you
If you use a wide variety of browsers, just mention the main one, if you use a different one at work than at home, then mention both.
It would also be useful to know what screen resolution you use, but that’s far less important, so dont worry if you don’t know the answer.
I know you said don’t but I cannot help it.
My main browsers are Opera 7.52 and Firefox 0.9.2. I change between the two favouring one and then the other. At the moment it’s 80% Opera and 20% Firefox, I’m trying to get used to Firefox again ready for version 1.0.
Resolution is 1024 by 768 on this PC and 1280 by 1024 on the other.
Incidentally I use a PC not a Mac. I know you didn’t ask this but then you probably didn’t know that IE for the Mac is different from IE for the PC and they render things differently
I tend to use IE mostly, running it at 1024x768. Although I do occasionally use Mozilla and Opera at the same resolutions. I tried to use Firefox but it’s started to refuse to run and I’m not gonna faff about trying to get it to run when the 3 other choices I can select from all work fine…
I use Firefox at work, and IE pretty much everywhere else…
And you’re a git.

Actually discovered and installed latest version of Firefox (0.9.2) about 10 minutes after posting my comment and it works fine, so using that exclusively at the moment…
Firefox 0.9 at 1280*1024
IE6. Desktop resolution 1600x1200, browser window size roughly 1024x768 so I can keep an eye on other stuff (but I can quickly maximise it for stupid sites, which yours isn’t).
It may be possible for you to get a good idea of which browser etc your visitors use by using something which logs the browser strings of your visitors. I’ve certainly seen it done before on PHP sites and theres probably some ready made code that can be dropped in, but I’ve never used PHP myself so I could be wrong.

I use IE6 at 1024 resolution.
