Women are Better Drivers than Men?

Claire just bought a car, and was phoning round for insurance quotes.

She spoke to Diamond Insurance, who’s main selling point is that they’re cheaper than other insurance companies because they only insure women, who are safer drivers.

They gave Claire a quote… then asked if she had a boyfriend, and suggested she put him as an extra name on the insurance, as it would work out cheaper for her with a man on the account..!

Go figure

The Evil of Dvd

I wish I knew why I buy dvd’s..

I see them on the shelf, and think “ooh, I gotta own that movie” and buy it ... then with most of them, watch them once and never again.

Some I’ve had for months and haven’t gotten round to watching yet.

I went to see Bulletproof Monk at the cinema, and thought it was crap ... last week I saw the dvd and bought it ..

.. admittedly now I’ve watched it again it’s great

Why do I buy instead of just hiring movies?  What is it that gives me the urge to own particular movies?  I have no idea.

I do like to own tv series, watching an entire series over the course of a couple of weeks is far more fun than just watching it one episode a week.  I rarely regeret buying a tv series on dvd ... well, maybe Ripping Yarns..

And Box Sets… they seem to hold some kind of evil sway of me.. I’ve been known to buy a box set even though I already own one of the dvd’s ... just to get the box…

And I own most of the Friends series, every Only Fools and Horses episode they released, the entire Robin of Sherwood etc etc on video ... which in itself is fine ... but strangely I now own them all on dvd as well..

In conclusion:  Bloody Dvd’s

Anyway, see the comments for my dvd lists!

Calendar Girls

The women at my work have arranged a girls night out to go and watch Calendar Girls.
The women at Claires work have arranged a girls night out to go and watch Calendar Girls.
The women at my mums work have arranged a girls night out to go and watch Calendar Girls.

The cinema at the Trafford Centre has been taking advance bookings for Calendar Girls for three months now..

There have been loads of great films out lately, huge blockbusters… none have had this reaction…

wtf is it about this film??

The fashionable thing to do

I wasn’t going to do this, but most others I know in our little blogcircle have done, so here are the top 5 women that I ‘would’.

(disclaimer: (in event that Claire reads this!) Obviously Claire would be number 1 on this list, but we’re talking famous people so am unable to list her!)

  • 1. Eliza Dushku (Faith from Buffy)
  • 2. Suranne Jones (Karen from Coronation Street)
  • 3. Kelly Brook (mmmm)
  • 4. Amy Acker (I hugged her.. see photo below)

I was struggling for number 5 between Nell McAndrew and Lara Croft (No ont Angelina Jolie, Lara Croft), but as Nell was the original ‘official’ Lara Croft’, I settled for:
  • 5. Nell McAndrew, dressed as Lara Croft

    I hugged Fred

Special mention should go to Britney and Keira Knightley who came close.
